Understanding Metropolitan Economies and Knowledge Based Industries

Impresa

Impresa is a Portland based consulting firm specializing in metropolitan economies and knowledge-based industries. We work with business and civic leaders to understand what it takes for organizations and places to be successful in the global knowledge economy.

Our policy advice is built around Impresa's four-part framework for developing successful urban economies.  Places flourish by building strategies that effectively harness talent, innovation, connections and distinctiveness.  Our work revolves around explaining how these four forces shape economic success, in developing measures policy makers and others can use to design and implement effective strategies in each of these four areas.

Industry clusters are central to making sense of the way regional economies function, and Impresa is a recognized leader in defining clusters, developing cluster strategies, and advancing the state of the art in their implementation.

We view sustainability not as an obstacle ot regional economic prosperity, but an opportunity and a building block for healthy regional economies, and based on our experience in developing policy in our hometown of Portland, we've shown how sustaintainble policies can pay a handsome green dividend for local economies.

The public sector is an integral part and partner in place-based policies to promote economic success.  From our economic perspective we focus closely on a series of issues related to public finance.

Economic data and analysis are our window into the workings of regional economies.  Impresa is a recognized leader in applying a diverse array of economic data to developing keen and actionable insights.  Our partner website--www.econdata.net--is one of the web's leading guides to economic data.
