Biotechnology is the current hot topic in state and local economic development circles now.  Our report, Signs of Life, lays out a detailed picture of the growth of the biotechnology industry in the nation's largest metropolitan areas.   Based on an extension compilation data on biomedical research, patent activity, private investment, and on an analysis of information about hundreds of biotech firms, the report identifies the nine leading centers for biotechnology in the US.  In addition, Signs of Life identifies the key elements in successful strategies for biotechnology commercialization.

This report is published by the Brookings Institution.
